Pikesville Towne Center Renovations
Renovations Begin at Pikesville Town CenterProject will enhance historic firehouse, create courtyard, and upgrade facades
Renovations have begun on Pikesville Town Center, the 12,000-square-foot retail development in the 1200 block of Reisterstown Road, announced Robert G. Pollokoff, president of The Fedder Company, developer for the project. The renovations will include the creation of a courtyard linking the development’s parking lot to Reisterstown Road, the preparation of the historic Pikesville Firehouse for retail use, and new facades for the five retail spaces fronting Reisterstown Road. The project is scheduled to be completed in the Fall 2008.
The new courtyard at Pikesville Town Center will be created by razing a retail space in the existing five-store retail strip, thus providing shoppers with direct access to the 52 parking spaces located off DeRisio Lane. The new courtyard will be highlighted by planters and accent lighting.
In the 2,600-square-foot Pikesville Firehouse, renovations will make the building more energy efficient while enhancing its historic appeal as a potential retail space or restaurant. The columns, exposed brick walls, and wood-beam ceiling will retain the original character of the building, which was built in 1920. Improvements include creating a level floorplan, the installation of insulated windows and a new roof, all new electrical systems, and a new storefront entrance where the garage doors were located.
The Pikesville Town Center project also includes the installation of fabric awnings and backlit signs facing Reisterstown Road. Pikesville’s signature “P” logo will be incorporated into decorative elements of the project.
“The Pikesville Town Center project reflects a heightened interest in revitalizing Pikesville by creating a new, inviting shopping experience,” said Robert G. Pollokoff. “These renovations will create a more attractive and accessible retail environment.”
"We are thrilled with the investment and renovations the Fedder Company is undertaking,” said Peirce MacGill, revitalization specialist with the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development. “The Pikesville Town Center project will enhance the pedestrian friendly atmosphere in downtown Pikesville. This is exactly the type of project we are promoting in all of Baltimore County's neighborhood downtowns and really adds to the incredible momentum occurring in Pikesville. The Firehouse provides an excellent opportunity for a business to have a unique space with a ton of charm and character."
The Fedder Company has committed $1 million to renovate Pikesville Town Center. Main Street Design Group is the architect for the project and Chesapeake Contracting Group is the general contractor. The project is being leased by Susan K. Kirn of KLNB Retail.
The Fedder Company has managed similar redevelopment and renovation projects for other retail centers, including One Mile West in Catonsville and 140 Village Shopping Center in Westminster. Since 1973 The Fedder Company has built, developed, and acquired over $200 million in income-producing property, including shopping centers, office buildings, industrial and self-storage facilities, and apartments.
